Lifetime membership in the Horatio Alger Association is conferred on 10 to 12 individuals each year with the presentation of the Horatio Alger Award. The Award symbolizes the Association’s values, including personal initiative and perseverance, leadership and commitment to excellence, belief in the free-enterprise system and the importance of higher education, community service, and the vision and determination to achieve a better future.
The Annual Horatio Alger Awards are a three-day celebration held each spring in Washington, D.C. During these events, usually 10-12 individuals are inducted into the Association with the presentation of the Horatio Alger Award. Concurrently, the newest class of Horatio Alger National Scholars are recognized for their determination in spite of personal adversities.
The Norman Vincent Peale Award is annually conferred on a Member who has made exceptional humanitarian contributions to society; who has been an active participant in the Association; and who continues to exhibit courage, tenacity and integrity in the face of great challenges.
The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans accepts nominations each year for the Horatio Alger Award. Nominations are reviewed by the Association’s Board of Directors who select the best candidates to receive the Award. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 Horatio Alger Awards, the 2020 Awards finalists will accept their induction into the Association during the 2022 Awards events next April.
We welcome nominations of individuals for possible membership in the Association in 2023.
