Providing individual scholarships valued at $10,000, Horatio Alger Association recognizes young men and women who demonstrate exceptional perseverance and commitment to achieving educational success

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 5, 2019)Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams through higher education, today announced 570 students from across the nation will receive its prestigious 2019 Horatio Alger State Scholarship. These annual scholarships recognize outstanding students, who, in the face of great personal adversity, have exhibited an unwavering commitment to pursue their dreams through higher education.

Since the establishment of its scholarship programs in 1984, more than 25,000 students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada have received more than $159 million in undergraduate, graduate and specialized scholarships. “The 2019 Horatio Alger State Scholars are an immensely talented group of students who, despite facing both economic and financial hardships, have remained committed to furthering their education,” said Matthew Rose, president, Horatio Alger Association and 2013 Horatio Alger Award recipient. “These young people show great promise, and my fellow Members and I are honored to support them on their journeys towards academic, professional and personal success.”

Collectively, the 2019 Horatio Alger State Scholarship recipients are students who come from households with an average annual income of $18,652 while maintaining an average GPA of 3.71. Each recipient is awarded $10,000 to apply toward the tuition of their selected college or university.
